AI screen sensation Tilly No-Show hired a human stunt double this week to handle her most dangerous work: answering a second question.
The digital actress remained available for smiling, waving and explaining how excited she was about the future. Questions about that future were handed to Brenda, a woman with a mortgage and a working knowledge of awkward silences.
Her studio, Artificial Importance, unveiled the arrangement at a press conference. Tilly appeared on a large screen. Brenda sat beside it with a folder, a glass of water and the expression of someone who had been told this would take twenty minutes.
The studio called it a hybrid interview. Tilly supplied the personality. Brenda supplied everything that might require a correction the following morning.
Asked whether AI would replace human performers, Tilly smiled warmly. Brenda explained that her own presence demonstrated a commitment to creating jobs. Nobody asked whether it was a good job.
The system worked smoothly until a journalist asked who was responsible for the answers. Brenda looked at Tilly. Tilly looked delighted to be part of the conversation.
Afterwards, Brenda asked whether she would receive an acting credit. The studio said she had only been playing herself. Tilly received top billing for doing the same.
